A moderately accessible trail leading to one of the most gorgeous views of Mount Hood!

Besides being a constant uphill hike (with tricky footing due to tree roots) with a 700ft elevation gain, Top Spur is a fairly simple 2 mile loop hike.

Don't worry, the view begins to open up within a mile!

Due to getting here so late in the evening, we opted in to just get to the viewpoint, and turn back around, avoiding the rest of the loop hike.

Catch sunset, and watch the light show on the peak of Mount Hood. (Unless sunrise is your thing).

Arriving here late in the evening in mid October allowed us to have the viewpoint all to ourselves.

Mount Hood getting a fresh blanket of snow on the peak during sunset.

I honestly don't think I could have taken enough pictures, with how incredible this unobstructed view is!

After one last look, we hiked down in the dark feeling accomplished after witnessing something so beautiful. (The hike down is much easier than up, of course).

PROS:

One of the easier hikes near mount hood for incredible views!

Plenty of other trails connected (Pacific Crest Trail).

Family friendly hike and a short drive from Portland.

CONS:

VERY popular trail.

Parking is filled quickly on weekends.

The one lane 7 mile road up can be tricky.

FEE area. (Trail can be packed in summer due to accessibility).
