Truly a gem hidden in plain sight in Central Oregon, welcome to Pine Mountain!

Being in the High Desert, Pine Mountain's reputation boasts for being one of the darkest skies in Oregon, and rightfully so.

Pine mountain has it's own observatory for star gazers, along with onsite camping scattered throughout.

While the campground itself can fill up quickly on the weekends, there are plenty of pull offs along the dirt road with areas that

may be used to camp at, along with pre-made fire pits.

It gets very hot, and very dry out here. Be sure there are no fire bans before you start a campfire!

Our campsite came with a short walk to an incredible view! No better place to make dinner.

Of course, camping isn't camping without good ole Mountain House meals!

Photos like this, you'd almost think I was sponsored by Mountain House!

I wish.

Scouting the area before the sun goes down is always a must.

Once the sun has set and it begins to cool down, it's time for a warm fire and a good whiskey!

The camping necessities.

I personally recommend a good single malt 12 year. You can't go wrong with Glenlivet!

Glenlivet, feel free to also sponsor me!

But now to the main reason for camping this remote location, the night sky!

I'm not sure I've ever seen as many shooting stars at once in my life as I have here! Making this spot even more spectacular!

Once you've stayed awake for as long as you can enjoying the stars above you, start your morning out the right way, with a warm cup of camp coffee.

Let the coffee (and cup) inspire you, I promise you won't regret it!

PROS:

Camping here is free!

Campsites are spacious.

The views are great, and night sky is phenomenal!

CONS:

It's a long fairly bumpy dirt road to get up the mountain.

It's very dry and hot here (being near the desert).

Campground will fill up fast in the summer, come early!
